Toma

First, let me apologize for again letting this page become stagnant for so long. After a busy season of gymnastics, I managed to break my hand (read the details) and then had to get moved out of my home quickly before the Olympics. I am now on a flight to Athens, and there's one thing (person, actually) that I can't get out of my head. Conspicuous by her absense is Tamara Yerofeeva, who was forced to retire due to a nagging back injury.

"Toma," as she is affectionately known by her fans, will always be fondly remembered, both by myself and my colleague Tom Theobald, for her performances at the 1998 Goodwill Games...especially her breathtaking exhibition. This was the event that solidified my commitment to RG and coaxed Tom out of retirement.

I've had the privilege to photograph her at many subsequent competitions, and her dramatic presentation and captivating eyes will not be forgotten now that she has moved on to life after gymnastics.

In 2003, I had the privilege of working with this young woman in a photo studio setting. It was a pleasure to work with her in such a way, to see her off the carpet, and of course to see her face light up when the prints were delivered later in the year.

You are and will be missed, Toma. Best wishes for your future.
